Over 60 years of research into Floatation Therapy has revealed the power of weightlessness, total stillness, and soothing Epsom salt water at body temperature to act together as a healing force. Floating is one of the best methods for achieving deep mental relaxation and physical relief because it induces a neutral state for your mind and body, allowing them to rest, recover, and rejuvenate. The benefits of float therapy have been touted by everyone including professional athletes, physical therapists, meditation specialists, pregnant women, and the nonstop parent and professional.
What is Floating?
Floating is simply the act of relaxing in a near sensory-less environment to achieve mental and physical restoration. You will have this experience in a specialized Dreamspa Float Pod filled with over 1000 pounds of Epsom salt and 150 gallons of water. The buoyancy created by the salt content allows the body to float weightlessly on top of the water.
What should I Expect on my 1st Float?
When you arrive, you will be taken to your private room and you will be given a thorough explanation of what to do and where things are located. You will be given 10 minutes before your float to shower and clean any lotions, dirt, etc. from your body and hair with either products that you bring yourself or with ones that are provided to you. You will then have a 60 minute float session. After your session, you will have another 10 minutes to wash the remaining salt from your body and hair. If you need fix your hair or makeup, a separate station is provided for you outside of your room to complete that.
HOW TO SHOWER
This seems like it could go without stating but the process is specific for floating.
Before: Use the body wash and shampoo to remove any lotions, hair products, or oils from your body and hair. This will ensure the quality of the water and maintain its purity. DO NOT use conditioner prior to the float for that reason as well.
After: I recommend using the washcloth from the pod to keep the saltwater from dripping into your eyes. Hold it there until you have at least rinsed the salt from your hair. This will help so your eyes don't burn. Then feel free to use the products provided, including the conditioner, or ones that you have brought. After you finish the shower, towel off, redress, and exit the room. You can use the station provided outside of your room to finish fixing your hair and makeup if desired.
How do I Prepare for Floating?
Bring an open mind to fully experience each float, a hair brush and deodorant (if desired). We will provide body wash, shampoo, and conditioner (only for after the float), towels, ear plugs, and bottled water. Eat a light snack about an hour prior to your float.
What do i wear?
You may float nude or in a swimsuit, whichever you are more comfortable with. You will be in a private room throughout your floating experience.
Can I float while pregnant?
Yes! Floating is ideal for pregnant women as it alleviates pressure on the skeletal system and joints, and assists in relieving muscle tension. We do recommend that pregnant women consult their physician prior to floating, especially during the first trimester.
Can I float while menstruating?
Yes, just take the same precautions while floating as you would if you were swimming.
How many times should i float?
The benefits of floating can be felt immediately after one session. New floatation research regularly reveals more remarkable benefits from repeatedly using float tanks, the more often you float, the better it is for you! My goal will be to float once per week strictly for relaxation purposes, and then 2-4 times per month for expert level problem solving as well. Each person will have their own needs and desired outcomes in which they can customize their floating experiences and frequencies.
How do you keep the tanks clean?
Our pods use a special combination of Micron Filtration, Ultra Violet Rays and Ozone Generators to keep the water crystal clear and safe enough to drink (minus the salt). Our powerful filtration system runs 3 complete cycles in between each float. Also, the high concentration of Epsom Salt makes it extremely sanitary and almost impossible for microorganisms to live.
Can I fall asleep?
Yes! It is not uncommon and some people actually prefer to sleep during their float. The water is extremely buoyant so you stay afloat. If you tend to shift positions in your sleep, the worst that can happen is salt water in your eyes. We will provide a wash cloth and freshwater spray bottle to get the sting out if that happens.
when should I avoid floating?
Shaving the day of your float. Caffeine for 2-3 hours prior. Eating a large meal 2 hours before you float (you would probably hear the digestion). Smoking immediately before the float (smoking can be a stimulant). It is also recommended to use the restroom prior to floating so you don't have to disrupt the float. *Please be aware that you cannot float for 2 weeks immediately following getting your hair dyed, a week following a spray tan, while a tattoo is healing, or if you have an open wound. You also may be restricted if you have any infectious skin or foot disorder.
